ROCHESTER-More than 10,000 filling, nutritious meals are on their way to Oakland County children after a meal-creation event at McGregor Elementary School. Some 230 volunteers from Rochester and surrounding areas joined Generosity Feeds to pack 10,750 meals in about two hours on Saturday, June 9th. They exceeded their 10,000-meal goal and had a great time together.
The meals are being distributed to children locally through Forgotten Harvest, an organization dedicated to dedicated to relieving hunger and food waste in Metro Detroit.
"We truly appreciate this donation,” said Ellen Busch, Food Sourcing Coordinator for Forgotten Harvest. “It will go to help feed so many people at the 260 pantries we serve in the three-county metro Detroit area, completely free of charge."
“Like any of us, children struggle when they’re hungry,” said Ron Klabunde, Founder and CEO of Generosity Feeds. “This event will help us give them hope as thousands of nutritious meals are packed and distributed to local Oakland County children. We’ve come up with a formula that assembles and distributes these meals quickly and efficiently. Together, this effort will help local kids and their families.”
People may be surprised to learn that nearly one in three children in Oakland County (30%) struggles with hunger. Generosity Feeds is a nonprofit dedicated to feeding American children who struggle with hunger.
“We worked with a culinary chef to make nutritious meals that kids will love to eat,” said Klabunde. “Our meals are filled with protein and fiber from sustainable sources. They taste good, they’re satisfying and they’re easy to prepare. After the volunteer event, the meals are distributed to students who qualify for free and reduced meals at school.”
One-for-one…every dollar feeds a child in need, and donations to help cover costs are always appreciated. Just $30 can provide about 30 meals.
